  • LGBTQIA+ Resources for Breast Cancer

    LGBTQIA+

The LGBTQIA+ community experiences barriers to accessing and utilizing health care services due to marginalization and discrimination. Compounded with the lack of knowledge and negative attitudes from health care providers regarding sexual minorities and their health care needs, the odds of cancer diagnosis have increased between 50-70% within the the LGBTQIA+ community. • Racial & Ethnic Minorities

With the increase of early detection screenings and more effective treatments, breast cancer mortality rates have decreased overall. However, racial and ethnic disparities seen in healthcare and access to treatment have made it so that patients of color are less likely to obtain adequate treatment and supportive services compared to white patients. • Male Breast Cancer

According to the American Cancer Society, about 2,710 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in men and about 530 will die from breast cancer (American Cancer Society, 2022). Due to breast cancer being labeled as a “women's disease” there are few resources that directly target males within the breast cancer space.
