Did You Know?

“In 2020, the total financial burden of cancer care in the US was approximately 173 Billion dollars. On average, insured cancer patients will spend about $5,000 out of pocket each year during active treatment.

With healthcare costs climbing, and the number of American households living paycheck-to-paycheck, the financial burden of treatment can easily become toxic, meaning that it negatively influences decisions about treatment and adherence to treatment plans. This financial toxicity also brings significant stress to families already facing great emotional and physical challenges.

New efforts to address this growing problem are energized by the American Society of Clinical Oncology acknowledgement of the impact of financial toxicity on cancer patients. Recognizing the impact of financial toxicity on patients and survivors well-being and quality of life, they note that patients often face extreme financial distress and a greater mortality risk.”
